Engineering Discovery 2017

This event for secondary school students seeks to provide them with education and career guidance so that they are better informed about engineering education and careers as well as the choices available at the polytechnics. This flagship event that anchors this year’s Engineering@Polys activities will be held on 24 October 2017 at Singapore Polytechnic’s Convention Centre. The theme for this year’s event is “Innovate and Create Engineering Solutions to Make the World a Better Place”.
The event comprises three parts:
(a) Experiential and interactive project exhibits by polytechnic students. This segment aims to showcase engineering as an exciting and meaningful endeavour which helps to develop ingenious inventions that are useful to society and industry.
(b) Hands-on workshops based on five key areas that provide students with a quick overview of the engineering applications and relevant knowledge related to these areas. Highlights of this segment include building prototypes related to the key areas to ignite students’ interest in engineering and participating in a mini contest to win attractive prizes.
The five key areas for the hands-on workshops are:

|I Fly High!||Fun with aircraft design, construction, and test-flying|
|I Appreciate Robots!||Fun with understanding and controlling robotic systems|
|I Go Smart!||Fun with building smart devices for a Smart city|
|I Care!||Fun with creating solutions for an inclusive society|
(c) Engaging education and career guidance (ECG) talk by the polytechnics’ ECG counsellors to help secondary school students explore and make informed decisions on engineering education and career pathways.

Meals and Transport Arrangements
Lunch will be provided for both students and teachers. Transportation via a 40-seater bus will be provided for schools sending 30 or more participants with the following options:
i) One-way journey (to Singapore Polytechnic) OR
ii) Two-way journey (to and from Singapore Polytechnic)
