Why Engineering?

What an amazing time we live in! Have you ever thought about why today’s cars are faster, more fuel-efficient and less polluting? Have you ever wondered who created that spine-tingling ride you love so much at the amusement park? Or who came up with instant messaging on your mobile phone? If you have, did you recognize that nearly everything around you that makes life easier and more enjoyable was made by an Engineer? In fact in today’s world, engineering is impossible to escape. It’s everywhere and has probably changed our lives more than any other field, and it will continue to do so.

Sure, everyone knows that things like the MRT, computers, aeroplanes, bridges and cars are all products of engineering. But did you also realise that right now some creative engineer is working on edible bubble gum, better footballs, amazing movie special effects, scarier roller coasters, and synthetic human tissue replacements. Engineers have a hand in designing, creating, or modifying nearly everything we touch, taste, see, smell and hear in our daily lives. Their innovations fuel economic growth, fortify national security, improve healthcare and safeguard the environment.
