Interview
with
LEE CHOON HONG
1st year student, Biomedical
Engineering, Nanyang Polytechnic |
Please tell us
how would your friends describe you?
I get along well with people so I think
my friends would probably describe me as being easy-going, helpful and
friendly. Some may describe me as the magic man or an
entertainer because I carry my tools around with me and
perform magic tricks to help us de-stress or just for fun! (laughs)
What kind of
magic tricks do you do and have you put up any public performances before?
Well, I do mostly card tricks. I have
performed on stage on Teachers Day at my alma mater (Punggol Secondary
School). I am looking forward to performing on stage at NYP! Can I perform one
for you now? (Oh yes, of course replied this reporter. Choon Hong
went on to perform a card trick that picked out a mystery card accurately!
Amazing!)
Apart from
magic, what other CCAs or hobbies do you have?
There are so many CCAs at the poly and I
have chosen the National Police Cadet Corps (NPCC) Club and Wushu. I hold the
rank of Cadet Inspector and also volunteer my services at the NPCC
headquarters. Since secondary school days, Ive learnt a lot of things
through NPCC and have built up my leadership skills through training and
activities. As for Wushu, this is something new although I have had some
training when I was younger during my primary school days.
You seem to
know exactly what you want! So tell us, what made you choose the biomedical
engineering course?
I like to find out how things work
just like how magic works! plus I always have this dream of
working in the biomedical field. I think engineering allows me to put my
creativity and engineering skills to good use. I like Maths, Science and
Physics and because the biomedical engineering course has all that and enables
me to pick up new skills in engineering, IT and biomedical, it naturally is my
first choice! I am aiming to further my studies at a local university and begin
my career in research in the biomedical field.
How do you find
poly life so far?
Poly life is great! I have adjusted very
well switching from a secondary school system to poly life. I like the freedom
to plan and organise my free time when therere no lectures, tutorials,
lab or group project work, for study and play. I also like the hands-on
approach, e-learning and the power of learning at my own pace. Whenever I need
help, our friendly lecturers are always readily available to guide me along.
All in all, I am enjoying every bit of my poly life!
Thank you, Choon Hong! We wish you all
the best and may all your dreams come true!
