Interview with
FONG SE SIANG
A Heart
for the Community
3rd year student, Manufacturing
Engineering, Nanyang Polytechnic |
Why did you
choose the Manufacturing Engineering course?
I like to find out how things work and
have always liked Physics so engineering came as a natural choice for me. I
chose the Manufacturing Engineering course purely out of interest. I believe in
pursuing what I am interested in as a part of my life.
What
other interests do you have and are there any CCAs you actively take part
in?
I swim and play basketball regularly. I
have recently picked up a new hobby in digital photography. Organising
community services and activities is also something I devote a lot of my time
in. (Ee Siang is the President of the School of Engineernig Care & Share
Club.) For example, we organise parties for senior citizens, outings with MINDS
for the intellectually disabled, enrichment programmes for fellow engineering
students and tuition programme for freshmen. To me, doing community work is
something meaningful and satisfying. Right now, its the least I can do
for the community.
Youve
scored some 9 distinctions and 12 As since your first year of study at NYP. How
did you achieve such good results while balancing studies with CCAs?
Since coming to the poly, I have learnt
to manage my time better and can juggle between studies and interests quite
well. I think my interest in the course I am pursuing plus the fact that I
enjoy doing what I do make it easier for me to cope.
What do you
like best about poly life?
I like the flexibility to plan my time
best. It allows me to learn to manage my time properly while enjoying the
vibrancy of campus life! I also like the many opportunities for me to make new
friends from across the Schools and other countries too! I have classmates and
friends from countries like China, Vietnam, Indonesia, Myanmar, Hong Kong and
Japan. The multi-cultural experience is something I will always treasure. Not
forgetting too, the excellent facilities on campus we get to enjoy
sports and activities with friends and lecturers too!
Thank you, Ee Siang! We wish you the very best in all you
do!
