Engineering Is the Dream that Drives Success

Nur Farzana Saini, Singapore Polytechnic (SP)’s Diploma in Engineering Systems gold medallist, applied for the course because of her strength in Maths and Science. Also, she was drawn to its mix of mechanical engineering and electrical engineering modules.

Her mother had initial misgivings about her taking up engineering. She was convinced only after seeing Nur Farzana’s results.

One of the highlights of her course was her internship at the Land Transport Authority (LTA). It deepened the skills and knowledge she had acquired in her studies. During her 22-week internship with LTA, she was in the maintenance management system team where she was tasked with tackling a programming problem. She showed great initiative as she learned to program in her search for a solution. At the same time, she received valuable exposure to various types of tests conducted on the Downtown Line system.

While she gained apprehensive insights from her module, Nur Farzana felt it was important to broaden her knowledge beyond engineering. When she was offered an advanced module in engineering design from the Singapore University of Technology and Design during her second year, she took it on to better grasp the dynamics of design.

Nur Farzana is furthering her studies in Mechanical Engineering at the National University of Singapore after graduating with a GPA of 3.96.
