The engineering profession is an exciting, meaningful and rewarding career that enables you to build a successful future through innovations and inventions that make the world a better place.
Engineering forms the backbone of Singapore’s economy. It is estimated that close to half of our economy relies on input from engineers in sectors, including manufacturing, construction, wholesale and retail trade, and transportation and storage. Even industries such as finance, insurance, accountancy and healthcare require a lot of support from engineers in terms of operations and maintenance of information technology systems.
As Singapore strives to overcome its lack of resources and be a Smart Nation, engineering fields such as robotics, telematics, automation technology and green technology will all play a key role. Job prospects in engineering are getting brighter, making engineering graduates greatly sought after.
In mid-2016, the Government has introduced measures to provide better career prospects, offering about 20% higher starting salaries for new graduate engineers.
The median gross monthly salary for polytechnic diploma holders has also increased by 3.8%, from $2,100 in 2015 to $2,180 in 2016. For males who started working after completing their National Service, the median gross monthly salary had risen to $2,517 in 2016.
